Training Practice

The Practice has now become a training Practice which means that we will have GP Trainees for 6 months or 1 year placements. The GP Trainees have got numerous years of experience in hospital and working within the NHS. They will be observing GPs in their clinics and seeing patients themselves. A GP will be supervising the Trainees at all times. Patient acceptance of this will be greatly appreciated.

Telephone Advice

A new telephone system has been introduced. When phoning the practice on 01292 550 238 you will be offered the following 5 options.
Press 1 for Emergencies
Press 2 for Appointments
Press 3 for Prescriptions (only available between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Press 4 for Results (results will only be given out between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Press 5 for General Enquiries and House call requests.

Appointments: Appointment’s can be made in person or by telephone. Separate appointments for each person. If you cannot keep an appointment please let us know so that someone else can use this valuable time.

Patients can get an appointment with an "Appropriate Healthcare Professional" within one working day. You still will be able to see the Doctor of your choice. There are a limited number of pre-bookable appointments available for patients who need to have advance knowledge of their appointment, or if they wish to see a specific Doctor. If you are specific about which Doctor you wish to see, we cannot promise that you will see that Doctor within one working day.

Routine: Make the appointment with the doctor of your choice. Staying with the same doctor for each particular problem wherever possible will improve the continuity of care.

Urgent: If possible phone before 10.00am. You will be seen as soon as possible, but it may not be by the doctor of your choice.

Home Visits: Patients whose illness prevents them from visiting the surgery can be visited at home. Please try and phone before 9.30am.

Telephone advice: If you would like to speak to a doctor for some advice, the best time is 8.30am and 9.30am.

Repeat prescriptions: Should be requested between 10.00am and 12.00pm or 2.00pm and 4.00pm. Anytime after that, they will only be accepted in the form of reorder slip. Prescriptions should be available to collect at the chemist after 48 hours from request. If you enclose a stamped addressed envelope we can post your prescription to you. Prescriptions can be collected from The Practice after 24 hours from request. If you enclose a stamped addressed envelope, we can post your prescription to you.

Test Results: If you have had any blood or other tests organised by your doctor you will normally be told about your results at your follow-up appointment. If you wish to phone for your results, we would be obliged if this could be done in the afternoon after 2.00pm, after 10 days from when your test was carried out

Out Of Hours: Telephone - 08454 24 24 24
Out of hours medical care is provided by the NHS Ayrshire Doctors On Call (ADOC). All calls to this out of hours service are recorded. A nurse will prioritise each request and give appropriate advice, arrange an appointment at the primary care treatment centre (usually Ayr Hospital) or for a doctor to do a house visit. Your doctors take part in the rota for this service and should not be contacted directly out of hours.
