Welcome to:
The town of Dalmellington stands 600 feet above sea level at the upper end of the Doon Valley. It is in effect ...`the gateway to the hill country - The Highlands of South West Scotland` ... and a settlement has existed here from very early times.
The Dalmellington Coat of Arms
The people of Dalmellington choose the design for a shield that reflects the proud heritage and exciting history of our community.
Following designs by the shool kids in Dalmellington, an in-depth consultation was carried out, then a final design was agreed that incorporates the following elements:
Tree: Forestry
Black Diamond: Coal
Arctic Char: A rare fish found in Loch Doon
Musical Notes: Dalmellington Silver Band
Mash and Pick: An old symbol that is carved in stone above the entrance to
Dalmellington Co-operative
Motto: "It well recalls the triumphs past". This is taken from the miners`
memorial
The Shield: The shape is associated with the `old marriage stone`
